These terms apply when you use PausePal on pausepal.co or in the PausePal apps. PausePal is run by Aditya Aswani in New York, USA (“we”). By creating an account you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

1. Who can use PausePal

You must be 18 or older. One account per person, with your own email address and your real first name.

2. What PausePal is

PausePal pairs you with another adult for regular live video sits: a short check-in, silent meditation between two bells, and a check-out. It is a practice and accountability tool. It is not medical, psychological or crisis care, and your pal is a fellow practitioner, not a teacher or therapist. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.

3. How we treat each other

When you join, you commit to:

• Treat your pal with kindness and respect.
• Show up on time, and give at least 24 hours' notice (ideally 48) if you need to change a sit.
• Keep what is said in a sit private.

In sits and anywhere on PausePal, you must not:

• record, screenshot or share a sit or your pal's image or words;
• show nudity or sexual content, or make sexual advances;
• harass, threaten, bully or demean anyone, or use hateful or discriminatory language;
• sell, promote, recruit or ask for money or personal details;
• pretend to be someone else, or use PausePal if we have closed your account;
• try to break, overload or get around the security of the service.

4. Reports and enforcement

If something goes wrong, use Report a problem in the sit or on your dashboard, or email hello@pausepal.co. You can also ask for a different pal at any time. We read every report. We may end a match, stop matching someone, or close an account that breaks these terms, with or without notice depending on how serious it is. If we close your account and you think we got it wrong, email us.

5. Matches and sits

We try to find you a pal within about a week, but we can't promise a match or a particular pal. Two missed sits in a row end a match. A match can end early if either of you asks for a different pal. Sit video goes directly between you and your pal and is not recorded.

6. Price and donations

PausePal is free to use. Donations are voluntary, made on our website through Stripe, and don't change what you get. They are not tax-deductible. If you donated by mistake, email us within 30 days and we will refund it. Monthly donations can be stopped at any time from the link in your Stripe receipt.

7. Your account

You can leave the waiting pool, ask for a different pal, or delete your account at any time in Settings (how to delete your account). Keep access to your email: it is how you sign in.

8. The service

We work to keep PausePal running well, but it is provided “as is”: sits can be interrupted by networks, devices or outages, and we may change, pause or end features or the service. If we plan to shut PausePal down, we will tell account holders by email first.

9. Responsibility

You are responsible for how you use PausePal and for your own wellbeing while meditating. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for what other members do, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you donated in the past 12 months or US$50, whichever is higher. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited.

10. Changes and law

We will update the date at the top when these terms change, and email account holders before any important change. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, unless the law where you live gives you the right to rely on its rules or courts.
